The Alex Lieber Memorial Scholarship

The Alex Lieber Memorial Scholarship will award two (2) $1,000 scholarships to help offset the expenses of a higher education. Awards will be presented to each recipient as two $500 American Express cards. The scholarship may be used to purchase text books, gasoline, airline tickets, computer hardware or software, or any justifiable expense related to receiving a higher education. Students must provide receipts for purchases and submit these in order to receive the second $500 card.

Have hemophilia or von Willebrand disease.
Be accepted by or enrolled in an accredited college, university, or vocational/technical school.
Be able to demonstrate volunteer service experience.
Agree that the funds are to be spent on expenses directly related to education, such as books, housing, transportation, or fees. We will require original receipts for all purchases made with scholarship funds.

Essay/Written Statement
Please email a 700 word essay in which you discuss your past and current volunteer experiences, focusing on what you learned from this experience and sharing measurable achievements: for example the number of people helped, total dollars raised, and hours worked. Also include how you plan to use the scholarship funds. Be sure to write "Alex Lieber" in the reference of your email.

Two Letters of Recommendation
This should be a letter from a teacher, advisor, or supervisor who can attest to your commitment to volunteer service. Ask the person writing the letter to be specific about your accomplishments and how your efforts helped those you served. Please download, print and give them the "Letter of Recommendation Form."

Higher Education Proof
Please submit proof that you are enrolled at an accredited college, university, community college or vocational/technical school.

The scholarship review committee reserves the right to make all final decisions. Scholarship application deadline: June 1, 2010.
